Cars, condoms, and chimps – what’s this got to do with Congress?  Slashing funding for programs, grants and other forms of support for these items and more is what the House is working on right now, as nearly 600 amendments have been attached to the Continuing Resolution to cut current spending by $60 billion. A final vote was originally expected sometime Thursday night, although by now nearly everyone acknowledges that the deliberations will spill into the weekend. House Speaker John Boehner, however, is determined to fulfill the GOP Pledge to America to cut billions from the current year’s budget. “When we say we are going to cut spending, read my lips: We are going to cut spending,” he said on Thursday afternoon.
