A new national poll out today says that more Republicans than Democrats think Americans should be able to take their guns into the friendly skies when traveling.
The poll from Public Policy Polling (PPP), says 16 percent of Americans think bringing a gun onto a plane is absolutely fine and dandy.
There’s a large partisan divide on the issue. “30 percent of Republicans but only 6 percent of Democrats [are] supportive of guns on planes," according to the poll.

PPP also asked about expanded background checks – “A plurality of the people opposed to them also think you should be able to bring your gun on the plane.”
The poll, which addressed other travel-related issues, also found that nearly half the people questioned think that obese travelers should have to buy two airplane seats for themselves – compared to 37 percent who disagree.
Here, too, was a partisan division. Those who identified themselves as “very liberal” opposed that notion by a 58/35 margin, while “every other ideological group” supported it, PPP said.

Finally, more Americans say they feel safer traveling in a car than in a plane. “This comes despite the fact that by a 69/15 spread, they think they’re more likely to die in a car crash than a plane crash….It seems there’s a disconnect between how people respond to the plane/car issue intellectually and emotionally.”
The poll surveyed 800 registered voters between July 19 and 21 of this year; the margin of error was +/- 3.5 percent. Polling was done through telephone interviews.
