Pentagon Plans April Furloughs

The Department of Defense will submit a request to Congress in February for approval to furlough civilian employees once each week beginning in April if Congress allows the massive, sequester cuts to slash the Pentagon’s budget on March 1. If Congress goes along with this,  civilian employees at the DOD would have to take unpaid leave once a week until the fiscal year ends on Sept. 30.  Read more at Politico

WAL-MART  FOUNDATION CHIEF FOR OMB DIRECTOR?   President Obama is expected to nominate Sylvia Mathews Burwell, president of the Wal-Mart Foundation, as his next budget director, The Hill reports. Like many members of Obama’s cabinet, Burwell is a veteran of the Clinton administration, where she served as the deputy director of Office of Management and Budget. If Burwell gets the nod, acting Budget Director Jeff Zients is expected to return to his previous role as the deputy OMB director.  Check out The Fiscal Times’ slideshow of Obama’s new cabinet at here
