9. Nassau-Suffolk Counties, NY
New York’s Long Island has impressively low unemployment numbers, just 4.7 percent for 45-54-year-olds and 4.9 percent for 55-64-year-olds. Much of this comes from the area’s booming education sector, which, according to the BLS, contributes more than 233,000 jobs to the area. It’s no big shock when you consider there are 22 colleges and universities in just these two counties alone.
