Senate Democrats might have to forget about raising more revenue this year.
House Republicans plan to withhold any and all tax bills from going to the Upper Chamber until the Senate passes a complete overhaul of the tax code, an aide to House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Dave Camp told Bloomberg on Monday.
Since all revenue measures must start in the House, the Senate would be unable to raise or lower taxes unless the House sends a bill to the upper chamber. The House’s political tactic will hit the breaks on the Senate Democrats’ plan to raise more than $1 trillion in revenue over the next decade, since comprehensive tax reform is not likely to happen during this Congress. - Read more at Bloomberg
RYAN’S MATH DOESN’T ADD UP, STUDY SHOWS The left-leaning Center on Budget and Policy Priorities reviewed House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan’s budget proposal and concluded that Ryan couldn’t achieve his goal of balancing the budget in 10 years unless it included tax hikes on those earning less than $200,000 a year.
