Here’s What Voters Care About in the 2018 Election

When it comes to the midterm elections, Trump trumps everything else: A new Morning Consult survey finds that “what congressional candidates think of the president is more important than nearly every policy issue polled, including security and health care, for both Republicans and Democrats.”

Even so, pocketbook issues remain important to voters of both parties, with 20 percent of Democrats and 22 percent of Republicans saying economic issues will be top of mind when they cast their ballots in November. Just which economic issues matter, though, differs by party, with Republicans placing more importance on taxes and government spending while Democrats care more about wages, jobs and unemployment.

Health care ranked third among Democrats and fourth among Republicans as a voting issue.
