The Trump administration’s revised plan to claw back federal spending is heading for a House vote tonight, but a new analysis by the Congressional Budget Office finds that it will save only $1.1 billion over a decade.

Trump this week tweeted that, “The HISTORIC Rescissions Package we’ve proposed would cut $15,000,000,000 in Wasteful Spending! We are getting our government back on track.”

While the revised package does target $14.7 billion in budget authority, most of the money would not have been spent. In some cases, the funding involved has expired or the programs are essentially defunct.
