Fingers Crossed on Those Killer Asteroids

The Trump administration wants to give NASA more than $100 million to develop new techniques for fending off asteroids hurtling toward Earth, but Congress’s inability to get all of its spending bills done on time means that the space agency will have to wait for its funding, Politico reports.

The money for the asteroid project likely won’t be approved until December, or even later, as lawmakers use a continuing resolution this week to push a half dozen or so spending bills into the next fiscal year.

Politico says that “while the planetary threat is real, the money to deal with it is caught up in Congress’ latest spending delays.”
