Nearly four in five Americans say that we won’t be fully rid of the coronavirus in their lifetimes, according to new survey results from the Axios/Ipsos Coronavirus Index.
At the same time, 29% say the pandemic is over, though sharp partisan differences remain on the issue, with 48% of Republicans considering the pandemic a thing of the past compared with just 9% of Democrats.
“Compared to early January (15%), during the height of the Omicron variant, an increasing share of Americans now (42%) report having already returned to their normal, pre-COVID life,” Ipsos reports. “At the other end of the spectrum, 33% say they expect it will be more than a year or never before they return to their normal life.”
