When it comes to raising money, there’s really no better place to go than the Internet. These days, Crowdfunding sites like Kickstarter and Indiegogo have helped raise money for just about everything—from publishing books for independent authors to helping the Jamaican Bobsled team get to the winter Olympics.

And now, they’re helping a guy in Ohio make potato salad.

Seriously.

What started out as somewhat of an Internet joke has escalated into a full-blown crowdfunding success story. Zack Brown of Columbus created a Kickstarter to raise money to make potato salad.

"Basically I'm just making potato salad. I haven't decided what kind yet,” the Kickstarter says. He added that those donating $3 or more will “receive a bite of the potato salad” and a photo of him making it.

And that seems to be a great deal according to the people of the Internet. He’s far, far surpassed his goal of raising $10--- on Monday morning donations totaled more than $8,900…all for Brown’s potato salad dream. And he still has until Aug 2.

Even Brown seemed to be taken aback by his success. Once the donations started pouring in, he updated the Kickstarter to thank his adoring potato salad-loving fans/donors.

“We're making a lot of great progress. I think it's time for us to think about getting hats made.”

Sure enough, now if you donate $25 you get a potato salad hat.

Because of the overwhelming interest, Brown said he will “rent out a party hall and invite the whole Internet” to enjoy his potato salad. Though there is one caveat, of course.

“It might not be that good. It's my first potato salad.”
