China has been steadily expanding its share of the global apparel manufacturing industry for decades – in 2010, it accounted for a third of all global clothing exports. Not surprisingly, the U.S. has been unable to compete with China’s low wages, and as a result, employment in this industry is projected to drop over 55 percent between 2008 and 2018.
