After spending a week digging out from (or hearing about others digging out from) the Blizzard of 2016, you may be overdue for a warm weather getaway.
SLIDESHOW: The Top Winter Vacation Spots for 2016
You’re not alone. Nearly two-thirds of those surveyed recently by TripAdvisor said that they were planning a leisure trip this winter. TripAdvisor took a look at their online queries to see which destinations were most searched by travelers looking to get away in the first three months of the year.
The site’s analysis looked at the average one-week cost of hotels, airfare, meals and activities from January to March. While many of the best rates out there were for January getaways, it’s still possible to find a deal in the next month or two.
Las Vegas took the top spot on the list, with the total average cost of a winter jaunt in Sin City coming in at $2,302. Cancun ranked second, with a cost of $2,733. The third most popular destination was Orlando, with an average cost of $2,229.
Destinations in Florida and Mexico rule the list, taking up six of the top 10 spots. The only destination with cold weather is New York City.
For trips to such popular locations, price out the cost of booking a la carte versus opting for a package deal. In addition to checking the big sites for deals, look at lesser-known sites that specialize in all-inclusive travel and may have connections to hotels on the ground. CheapCaribbean.com, for example, was recently offering a four-night stay in Cancun, including airfare, for $579 per person, a trip that would normally cost more than $1,000.
