The national debt has now grown by more than $1 trillion since President Trump took office, climbing from $19.947 trillion to $20.958 trillion. Asked about that increase in the debt and whether Trump has “given up on cutting deficits” or remains concerned about them, White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders responded:

“Of course he’s still concerned. That’s one of the reasons that the very first budget they put forward tried to address some of those concerns. We’re continuing to look for ways that we can cut government. I think we’ve done that in a number of ways through the deregulation process, cutting out a lot of inefficiencies in government, and we’re going to continue to do that and continue to push for policies that’ll help us reduce that.”
