With less than a month to go before the midterm elections, Americans still tend to disapprove of the Republican tax law passed last year — and still say that they haven’t seen an increase in their take-home pay, according to a new Gallup poll. “Americans are underwhelmed with the tax overhaul so far,” writes Gallup’s Megan Brenan.
Gallup’s survey of 1,462 adults, conducted September 24-30, found that:
- 46 percent of Americans disapprove of the tax law, compared to 39 percent who approve, essentially unchanged from seven months ago
- 64 percent say they have not seen an increase in their take-home pay
- 51 percent say cuts haven't helped their family’s financial situation, while 26 percent say they’ve helped “a little” and 12 percent say they helped “a lot.”
