Mad Max: Fury Road (May 15th)
We’re a long way beyond ”Thunderdome” -- 30 years to be exact -- but wonderfully eccentric Australian director George Miller has taken a break from directing children’s films about penguins to return to the franchise that made him famous. This time he has a younger and more user-friendly actor (Tom Hardy) in the title role; but judging by the trailer, Miller hasn’t lost a step. The second film in the series, “The Road Warrior,” has long been considered the gold standard in car chase movies, and it will be great to see what Miller can do with the new tools of filmmaking. The rise in popularity of the post-apocalyptic genre that these films helped create should ensure a strong following for the early summer release.
