Stealth Inflation: Honey, They Shrunk Your Lunch

FRESH SQUEEZED CONSUMERS

Florida’s Natural Orange Juice

Orange juice has had a history of disappearing – and it’s not because someone else in the house is sneaking it during the night. For Tropicana, a redesign of the 96-ounce jug in 2008 added an easy-pour lid, but held 10 ounces less juice. In 2009, Florida’s Natural went from 64 ounces to 59 ounces. After the cost of oranges rose last year, Tropicana followed suit, downsizing its 64-ounce carton to 59 ounces. In March, the company also announced it would be raising prices on some of its juices by 8 percent.
