Are Wages Increasing in the Wake of the Tax Cuts?

Are wage gains picking up or just puttering along? According to Ben Casselman of the The New York Times, that’s a hard a hard question to answer, due in large part to poor quality data that that is sending mixed messages.

“We have trouble measuring any of these things,” economist Tara Sinclair told Casselman. “This is definitely one of those situations where you can feed in the data and get out whatever response you’re looking for.”

One implication of this persistent problem is that both supporters and critics of the GOP tax bill may have trouble proving their case for the connection (or lack thereof) between tax cuts and wage gains for American workers.
