A conservative group released a proposal Tuesday to repeal the Affordable Care Act in August and give control over health care to the states, The Wall Street Journal reports.
The proposal from the Health Policy Consensus Group, which includes representatives from right-wing think tanks including the Heritage Foundation, the American Enterprise Institute and the Manhattan Institute, is similar to the bill written last year by Sens. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) and Bill Cassidy (R-LA).
Under the plan, states would receive block grants to help low-income consumers buy insurance, health savings accounts would be expanded and federal rules governing minimum coverage requirements would be eliminated.
The conservative group says this summer could be the last chance Republicans have to repeal the Affordable Care Act. Centrist Republicans, however, have avoided the whole issue lately, as the federal health program becomes more popular among American voters, raising serious questions about the viability of another repeal effort.
