AbilTo
Founder: Michael Laskoff, age 45Launched: 2008, begin the actual program in 2009
Mission: A winner of AARP’s 2012 HealthInnovation@50+LivePitch, this company offers eight week-long therapeutic-based programs to address depression and anxiety in the aftermath of a difficult life transition, whether it was a heart attack or losing a loved one. Laskoff says the goal is to address depression that tends to worsen if not addressed immediately and that can lead to increased overall health care costs. He says that 70 to 80 percent of those finishing the program see a decline in their depressive symptoms. Those who opt for the program can receive therapy via a video or phone conversation.
Revenue stream: The company charges for the program, but partners with health plans of large employers, and Costco recently signed up to be a client. www.abilto.com
