10 Forbidden Fast Foods We Can't Resist
Look how gorgeous, how tempting, this burger is. Who can resist it (though it's a 600-calorie monster)? Wendy's minces no words: The burger is "1/4 pound of our hot and juicy beef, crisp bacon, two slices of American cheese and rich portabellas in a melty cheddar sauce now on our new, buttery brioche bun." Life is short. Enjoy this burger while it lasts (it's a limited-time offering).
Total calories in this gigantor of a sandwich: 1,160 (for the footlong). Fat grams: 62. Sodium: 2940 mg. Carbs: 94. Dietary fiber: 10 g. Protein: 58 g. Manufacturer's suggested retail price: $6.39. But who's keeping track? Some of us just have to have the fatty beef that's been brined, peppered, steamed and stuffed into a sandwich that we're pretty sure the human body was not built to withstand in one sitting.
The word on the street is that this latest Burger King creation is a shameless knockoff of McDonald's Big Mac. Has that stopped any of the hungry hordes from gobbling up this burger? Burger King calls it "two savory fire-grilled beef patties, topped with melted American cheese, fresh-cut iceberg lettuce, crisp onions, crunchy pickles and featuring a sweet thousand island-style dressing, all on a warm, toasted, sesame seed bun." Bring it on, baby, and pass the Coke.
There is nothing like this delicacy when your taste buds just have to have a gooey chocolate dessert in a hurry. Do we care that there are 350 calories in this thing? Do we care that this chocolate delight clocks in at 17 g of fat and 47 g of carbs? Just order it now, have it delivered and forget about how sinful it is. Then have another one.
These "little pops of pleasure," as Dunkin' Donuts calls its famous donut holes, are so easy to grab, so easy to eat - and so easy to slosh down with delicious hot coffee. Munchkins are usually available in a bunch of varieties, including glazed, glazed chocolate, jelly, powdered sugar, and cinnamon. Do we care that an individual munchkin has about 70 calories? (You know the answer.) Do we care that 30 of those calories are from fat? (You know that answer, too.) Mum's the word. Just munch.
It's a great, quick and cheap lunch offering, this gyro that just drips with great sauces (red or white or both) and chunks of yummy meat, the origin of which you're not really sure and probably don't want to discover any time soon. Yeah, there's a little lettuce tucked in there somewhere, maybe even a tomato slice, too, if you're lucky. Eat, enjoy and no one gets hurt.
What could be better than this brimming and convenient bucket o' fried chicken? Perfect for grabbing on the go. Never mind that one mere drumstick has 120 calories and 310 mg of sodium. The chicken, as most of America knows, comes in the original recipe or crispy. Whatever: Just call it irresistible.
Not to be a drama queen (or king), but some people say these are the best fast-food french fries on the planet. We're not going to disagree as we stuff our faces and conveniently ignore the nearly 500 calories packed into a large serving of fries, never mind the 25 g of fat and 350 mg of sodium. The trans fat content is high; the cholesterol is low. But here's the truth: Nothing else will do when the craving hits.
It's crunchy, cheesy and something most nutritionists would sprint away from fast (just 1/8 of this pizza has 300 calories, 160 calories from fat, 17 g of fat, 9 g of saturated fat, 50 mg of cholesterol, 880 mg of sodium and 34 g of carbs). But let's not bore ourselves with the numbers. Mozzarella, white cheddar and provolone are mingled together and baked into the puffy crust of a yummy pizza that's usually dripping with sauce, cheese and pepperoni (toppings to taste). Dig in or we'll beat you to it.
We'll take this hot drink, super snowstorm or not. "Specially designed to be made with hot milk," coos Starbucks, the concoction is "made from real Starbucks coffee, premium cocoa, natural peppermint flavor and pure cane sugar... Enjoy a rich and creamy, crisp and minty cup of Starbucks flavored coffee anytime." (The espresso is topped with sweetened whipped cream and dark chocolate curls; a grande serving clocks in at 410 calories and has 175 mg of caffeine.) Sold.
