Christian Bale – Captain Corelli’s Mandolin

In the past few years, trashing Nicolas Cage films has become something of an Internet sport…and this trend didn’t start without good reason. Following his Oscar win for “Leaving Las Vegas,” Cage made a series of baffling decisions, including “Captain Corelli’s Mandolin” from 2001, a WWII movie/high-end romance novel. Bale, who had yet to transition from cultish child actor to Oscar-winning Batman, gets stuck with the role of “Guy Penelope Leaves for Cage.”

For a much better time, watch Bale’s non-Batman collaboration with Christopher Nolan, “The Prestige.”  The story of dueling stage magicians in Victorian England is a thoroughly entertaining puzzle box that even has room for David Bowie as Nikolai Tesla.
